Frontman Jack Frohawk grabbed his opportunity to impress with both hands by netting in King's Lynn Town's latest warm-up match.
The Linnets were losing 1-0 at National League North Boston United – who play a level higher in the non-league pyramid – until the reserve-team regular was introduced. The 19-year-old took less than a minute to mark his arrival by latching onto Jacek Zielonka's clever pass, shrugging off Julian Bennett's challenge and slotting home.
While the substitute's strike earned Lynn a draw in their second friendly of the summer, the real star for the visitors was goalie Alex Street. He produced a number of stunning stops to keep the hosts at bay as they failed to add to Carl Piergianni's opener early in the second period.
The only downside for Gary Setchell was an injury to summer signing Liam Hurst. It is not yet known how serious the former Cambridge United midfielder's fitness issue is, or whether he will be risked for Wednesday night's home clash against Dereham Town – originally scheduled to be held at Aldiss Park, not The Walks, tomorrow evening.
Lynn's lower-tier rivals Wisbech Town also continued their encouraging start to their preparations for the forthcoming season by winning the annual BKD Cup at March Town United.
A bumper crowd, who enjoyed the opening of the Hares' new clubhouse, saw the Fenmen win 2-0 thanks to goals from debutant Declan Rodgers and recently-signed midfielder Jack Brand – a highly-rated star prized away from progressive village outfit Wisbech St Mary.
Elsewhere, a Matt Blake brace helped Norwich United see off Great Yarmouth Town by two goals to nil.
Fakenham Town beat Yaxley 3-0, Diss Town edged a seven-goal thriller at Kirkley & Pakefield, Swaffham Town won 3-1 at Quorn while Thetford Town lost 3-1 against higher-ranked AFC Sudbury.
