Rail services in Norfolk have been hit with disruption due to a fault with a freight train. 

Greater Anglia warned of travel problems between Norwich and Cambridge on Friday afternoon due to a signalling fault at Ely railway station.

The rail company reported that the fault had been repaired on Friday evening, but there was further disruption due to a freight train breaking down at Ely.

At about 10.30am on Saturday (February 10), Greater Anglia said the train had been moved and that all lines had been reopened.

But a spokesman for the firm added that services were still altered, delayed or cancelled this afternoon as a result.

The problem affected hundreds of Norwich City fans heading to London for today's Championship game with QPR.

Our head of news, David Freezer, said it took him five hours to get from Norwich to Loftus Road.

"We knew there was a chance of some disruption today because there was some stuff last night and there was the derailment earlier in the week," he explained.

"But that didn't seem to cause any problems - it was a broken down freight train that they couldn't get shifted near Ely.

"Me and plenty of other Norwich fans have had a bit of a frustrating journey down but we're outside Loftus Road now. 

"I think some people were going to go down a bit earlier to get a bit more beer time so we've been robbed of the pre-match pub pint!"
